Heather Day, our LMT, has advanced training in instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization and is a Graston Technique Specialist (GTS). She has completed an extensive training program in Orthopedic Massage through the Academy of Clinical Massage as well as advanced training in Sports Massage through the American Massage Therapy Association. Heather has also completed continuing education in a wide variety of techniques including Cupping, Hot Stone, Aromatherapy and the use of percussion devices. She is currently studying to take the NCBTMB Board Certification in Massage Therapy.
In addition to massage therapy, Heather is also a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and has specializations in Corrective Exercise (CES) and Performance Enhancement (PES). She also holds a Certification in Applied Functional Science (CAFS) through the Gray Institute.
Graston Technique® (GT) Therapy

How does it work?
Through unique instruments and tailored techniques, our clinicians will be able to get as deep into the tissue as necessary in order to remedy your injuries. We get deep enough to make the change, but we can be sensitive enough as to avoid any pain for the patient.
Specially designed, stainless steel instruments are used in order to identify and then treat the affected soft tissue areas. As we move the instruments over the injured tissue, it will come into contact with the adhesions, breaking up the scar tissue in the process. This works to reduce or completely eliminate adhered fibers while restoring motion and eliminating pain. Eventually, the process will rebuild your soft tissue from injured to healthy, functioning tissue.
Side effects
During treatment, while not the intent, patients may experience some mild soreness. However, our clinicians are all trained to recognize these symptoms and work to avoid or minimize accordingly. The fact is, GT treatment does not need to be “painful” to be effective. The technique was made with patient sensitivity in mind. If you do experience any pain or discomfort during treatment, simply inform your clinician.
What does recovery from treatment look like?
Patients will typically receive two treatments per week during a four-to-five week period. By the third week of treatment, patients will start to see the positive response from the procedures. Many patients have actually reported an increased range of motion and reduced pain after the first treatment, however.
After treatment patients may experience mild soreness or small bruises over the treated area. If you do experience any of this soreness, icing the area for 15 to 20 minutes will help to ease any discomfort. It’s also recommended that you exercise, stretch, and practice strength training in combination with treatment to help the injured tissues to heal faster.
