Hip pain is a general term used to describe pain felt in or around the hip joint. When pain is felt in the hip joint the pain is attributed to joint issues but when pain is felt out or around the hip joint the pain is attributed to problems with the muscles, ligaments, and tendons that surround the hip joint.
Symptoms
Depending on what condition is causing your hip pain, discomfort may be felt in the following areas:
- Inside or outside of the hip joint
- Groin
- Thigh
- Buttocks
Diagnosis
Diagnosis involves a detailed medical history and physical examination. Your history will help they physician understand the pain you are experiencing while the physical examination will test the range of motion of your hip. Other tests may be done to examine your general health or cause of your hip pain.
